Wordless Wednesday: Wetsuit Mania

September 26, 2012

Just when you thought you had seen it all, now you get to see how … er … um … uh … lovely(?) I look in a wetsuit. Yesterday I went for my last open water swim before this Sunday’s Augusta 70.3 Half Ironman. I swam 1.4 miles in my wetsuit. It’s a huge relief to have finally swam that far in my wetsuit, as this will be my first time racing in one. Keep your fingers crossed that I do better on Sunday than I look in a wetsuit.

Have you ever swam in a wetsuit? If so, what tips would you give to others looking to swim in a wetsuit for the first time?

Well, if anyone can rock a wetsuit, it’s you!

LOL! Not sure about that, but at least it makes for a good laugh 🙂

XTERRA is coming do to a demo this weekend at my club OWS. Do you like the sleeveless suit? They are offering a huge 60% discount to us but only on the sleeveless. Do you still feel warm enough in it? Good luck this weekend! Can’t wait to see how it goes!

Hi Alessandra! I do like the sleeveless wetsuit for my first time. It can feel a little constricting and claustrophobic at first, and the fact that I can feel my arms is nice and works for me. Luckily where we are swimming shouldn’t be freezing. I would probably move to a full wetsuit with sleeves for the next race. I am borrowing this one from an Ironman friend 🙂 Good luck with your OWS. Let me know how it goes!

Oh please, you look like Catwoman and you know it! RAWR! 🙂

Ha! I wish. Hee hee.

LOL, I don’t know why, but I really laughed at the flip flops.

You look GREAT, are you kidding ME?!

I haven’t done the wetsuit but I do pay attention closely when someone experiences it newly – I’m a bit a-scared of the open water thing.

Seems you have it all under control!

Those flip flops always seem to make it into my post-race/workout pictures. Ha! Thanks for your kind words. The wetsuit thing isn’t as big of a deal as I thought it would be before swimming in it, so I know you can do it. Try borrowing or renting one first. I’m actually borrowing the one I’m wearing for the race. Not yet ready to invest in my own. Trying one out first allows you to decide if you want sleeveless or full sleeves, etc.

Kate

Lol! I agree with Christina – cat woman. Seriously Jes, I can’t believe anyone can loo that good in a wetsuit.

OMG! You are way too kind. Virtual hug 🙂

Girl, if anyone can rock a wet suit, it is certainly you. And with all that experience, in the suit and the water – can I draft you on Sunday? So glad we are the same wave!! 🙂

LOL! You are going to kick my butt in all three sports, but I’ll let you allow me to believe I’m going to rock it for the next 2 days 🙂 Can’t wait to see you in Augusta!
