Deep Breaths: Week-in-review & Link-up

April 28, 2015

Inhale. Deep breath. Exhale.

I’ve been doing a lot of that the past week. With just 10 days left until I say goodbye to Atlanta to relocate to Tampa, I’ve been squeezing in as much as I possibly can with my running family here in the city. How many runs can I schedule with friends? How many workouts can I fit in at my favorite Atlanta studios? How many boxes can I pack and social gatherings can I attend in between all that?

Inhale. Deep breath. Exhale.

It’s a bittersweet time for sure, but I’m trying to make the most of it. Here’s what my past week of training looked like.

Every week I share my weekly training and how I’m taking action against my 2015 goals. I also share the one thing I’m most proud of from the week and the one pitfall that has challenged me the most. Then, I invite you to do the same. There is a place at the bottom of this post for you to share a link to your weekly recap for others to come and cheer you on or offer you support. If you don’t have a Web site, simply share about your week in the comments section.

Getting Sweaty and Stronger

My fitness goals for 2015 are to stay in half marathon shape year-round (20-30 miles of running per week and long runs of 8-11 miles) and get stronger (2-3 strength training and cross training workouts each week).

  • Monday: 3-mile easy run
  • Tuesday: 45 minutes at Flywheel (22.7 miles)
  • Wednesday: 6 hilly miles with my pal Elizabeth + 30 minutes of deep stretching and foam rolling

  • Thursday: REST + attended Ladies VIP night at Road Runner Sports (any excuse to see my running family!)

  • Friday: 5 morning miles with Elizabeth, including 5 x 30-second sprints in the middle of the run + 1 hour of restorative yoga later in the day
  • Saturday: 45-minute IronStrength workout from Running Strong + 15 minutes of deep stretching and foam rolling

  • Sunday: Ran 10 easy, hilly miles with friends around an 8:45/mile pace and celebrated with brunch afterward; later in the day I rode my bike about 3 miles with Mr. rUnladylike to a neighborhood festival and did lots of additional walking

Eating Clean

My nutrition goals for 2015 are to cook most days of the week, limit sugar and bread intake, track my food daily and focus on eating clean(er).

Sadly, I don’t have any new recipes to share with you all from last week. Given our upcoming move, we’ve been keeping it simple and/or picking up food for take-out. My eating was less than stellar last week, which tends to happen when I’m in social settings and/or eating out more than normal. I had really great days followed by not so great days. I’m focusing on nailing a week of great workouts AND great eating.

What I’m Most Proud of

A solid week of workouts, including 6 days of exercise, 25+ running miles and lots of attention to yoga/deep stretching, foam rolling and strength training

Where I Struggled

Overeating in social settings “cue broken-record music*

Thought for the Week Ahead

oh, cool idea for the weekly recap link-up! i typically don’t do weekly recaps of my workouts but maybe i’ll give it a go next week so i can be on the list 🙂 enjoy your final moments in atlanta!

Alyssa

You sure fit a lot into one week! I feel like we’re on a similar page this time – I ran a lot, too, but struggled with doing more and definitely could stand to make better food choices. Hope you have another fun week! Good luck with the final preparations for the move and don’t be too hard on yourself! 🙂

rUnladylike

Good job Alyssa! Here’s to a clean week of eating for both of us 🙂 Happy running!

Laura @ This Runner's Recipes

Enjoy your final days in Atlanta! Great job fitting in so many strong workouts during the busy time of preparing for a move. My husband and I are moving from northwest Indiana to Seattle in 14 days, and I really like your quote for this week because it’s so applicable right now! Balancing moving, running, and healthy eating is tricky but it’s worth it to strike the right balance.

rUnladylike

Ahhh Laura! Good luck with your move to Seattle. Something tells me you’ll enjoy running in cool Seattle more than I will in hellishly hot Tampa. LOL! I will be in Seattle in June for the RnR half marathon. We should meet up!!! Are you running the race? Thanks for linking up! xo

Laura @ This Runner's Recipes

We should meet up when you’re in Seattle! I’m not sure yet about running the race but if I’m not I’ll be there cheering everyone one! 🙂

rUnladylike

Yes! Let’s stay connected and touch base as it gets closer. The weekend is June 12-14 🙂 xo

Lee@tri*inspired*life

Sounds like you are trying to really soak it all in, which is important, even though you are crazy busy! I bet you will cherish some of these last few gatherings a lot when you look back on your time after your move!

Last week, I enjoyed a recovery week for my 70.3 training, complete with an hour massage on Sunday!!

rUnladylike

Thanks so much Lee! Aren’t recovery weeks and massages the best? Great job with your training! xo

sarah @runfargirl

such a busy time, and bittersweet too! I’m so impressed with your workouts! well done!

Genna

Apparently I missed somewhere or I am just behind on reading that you are moving to Tampa! Congrats 🙂 it is wonderful here!!! tampa can’t wait to have you!

rUnladylike

Thank you Genna! Let’s plan a meet-up if you will be nearby! Yay!

Mike Podracky

Last week was a taper week capping with Sunday’s Glass City Half Marathon. I ran less miles than typical, but trained more intensely. “Less” was indeed more since I ran a new PR of 1:46, and won my age group of 60-64. Average pace was 8:05, but I actually ran 13.19 miles at 8:03. Next time I will shoot for a time that begins with a 7. Still need to bust 4 hrs in the marathon, but I know it’s in me. I used some of your mental mantras the last three miles of the half, and finished with a negative split: “I am stronger than I think” and “Breathe in strength, breath out weakness.”

rUnladylike

Congrats Mike! This is so exciting. I’m so happy for you! Awesome time!!!! And that time definitely indicates you are capable of a sub-4 marathon. I hope you are still on cloud 9 this week! Way to go!!!! So glad you shared with me!

Carly @ Fine Fit Day

I can relate to trying to fit in ALL the goodbyes before a big move. Hope you’re having more good times and laughter than tears!! xo

Angie

Another great week for you, sounds like you are enjoying your last few days with your running buddies. I just joined a running group and did it mostly to connect with some people through running. They are a great group of gals and better yet, some of them run a faster pace than me so running with them naturally helps me run faster (and pushes me more than I would on my own). Enjoy your last few days Jesica, some exciting changes for you are on the way!

elizabeth

won’t ever forget your help on that run. love that air shot pic of you!!! also- you didn’t share your king of pops experience with the world?!?! 🙂
