Packing It In: Week-in-review & Link-up

May 5, 2015

It’s hard to believe the day is almost here. Moving day. In just three short days, we’ll be locking the door of our Atlanta house for the last time to head south. Our life is packed into a million boxes that are stacked and waiting to be taken away to a new life … or at least to a climate-controlled storage facility until we find that new life in Tampa. Moving is a bit like a marathon. Lots of prep time, attention to details, long weekends, fatigue, high emotions, uncertainty. The month of April has been a whirlwind. From selling our house in 24 hours to packing up and packing in as much as we possibly can, I’m glad the finish line to the first chapter of our move is just around the corner.

April Numbers at a Glance

    • 81.3: Number of miles I ran
    • 66.9: Number of miles I cycled
    • 23: Number of days I exercised
    • 10: Number of fitness classes I took via ClassPass (I’m a ClassPass affiliate and am slightly obsessed with it!)
    • 9: Number of strength training workouts I did
    • 8: Number of rolls of bubble wrap I went through packing
    • 5: Number of restorative yoga classes I attended
    • 2: Number of times I nearly pooped in my pants during a run
    • 1: Number of races I signed up for (Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Half Marathon)

Here’s what last week looked like.

Every week I share my weekly training and how I’m taking action against my 2015 goals. I also share the one thing I’m most proud of from the week and the one pitfall that has challenged me the most. Then, I invite you to do the same. There is a place at the bottom of this post for you to share a link to your weekly recap for others to come and cheer you on or offer you support. If you don’t have a Web site, simply share about your week in the comments section.

Getting Sweaty and Stronger

My fitness goals for 2015 are to stay in half marathon shape year-round (20-30 miles of running per week and long runs of 8-11 miles) and get stronger (2-3 strength training and cross training workouts each week).

      • Monday: 1 hour at Blast with about 3.2 miles of running sprints and hills + strength work
      • Tuesday: 4.6-mile easy run
      • Wednesday: 1 hour of strength work at Barre3
      • Thursday: 45 minutes at Flywheel (22.4 miles) + 35 minutes of deep stretching and foam rolling
      • Friday: 1 hour of restorative yoga at Exhale Spa
      • Saturday: 8.22 easy miles with friends … my last weekend run in Atlanta!

What I’m Most Proud of

Exercising every day and getting most of our house packed up for our move

Where I Struggled

Eating. As we’ve packed up all our kitchen items and food, we’ve had to eat out regularly and have been on an unusual schedule. Being stressed and overwhelmed doesn’t always lead to the best food decisions. I’m looking forward to eventually getting back in the kitchen and on a normal routine.

WOW! I cannot imagine having to do all of that and the range of emotions you must be feeling. On the other hand – how exciting! You’re beginning a new adventure and the possibilities are endless!! Good luck getting though the week. Use your runner’s endurance to your advantage 🙂

Kristen

We JUST moved … 2 weeks before my goal 1/2 marathon. I didn’t think it would beat my body up the way it did since we hired movers … but man oh man. I’m still hurting a month later! The eating was hard too. As soon as we got back into a food routine we both felt a million times better!

Carly @ Fine Fit Day

Good luck with the move – I hope it all goes smoothly! I’m impressed you worked out every day while packing. I’m sure that helped with your stress levels! I’m looking forward to reading about your new adventures in Tampa!

Katrina

Good luck with your move! That’s an impressive month, especially considering you were busy preparing to move.

Solid week!!….But then again if you are anything like me, your workouts are keeping you “sane” during all the craziness that is going on! Sometimes the hardest times in our lives to fit in our workouts are THE most important times to get them in! Good for you and best of luck with the move!!

Laura @ This Runner's Recipes

I can empathize with the range of emotions – our move is both exciting and sad at the same time. I completely agree with you how moving throws a wretch into cooking and eating healthy at home – we’ve eaten out more in the past couple weeks than we did for all of 2015 up to now. Good luck with your move!

you still got it all in, with everything going on! impressed! I so hate I missed the last weekend run with you. I’m in major denial that you won’t be here next weekend. 🙁

rUnladylike

Thanks E! I’m going to miss running with you every week SO much! I’m really sad I won’t be here for your final weeks of marathon training but I will definitely be there in spirit. It has been a fun adventure since our first day meeting at Muddy Buddy all those years ago. Thanks for being such an awesome running partner and friend. xo

Smitha @ FauxRunner

I wish I could say goodbye in person before you leave 🙁

Nicole

Solid week even without all the moving! We had the same problem while moving- lots of eating out! You’ll be so relieved after your first grocery shopping trip at the new house! Good luck with the move!

Michael

Great post, Jesica!

Zoe

Congrats on the move and good luck with getting settled in quickly! It is awful packing everything up but in the end you’ll feel relieve!
