Saturday Run: By the Numbers

August 22, 2015

“Strangers are just friends waiting to happen.”
Steve Klaka

I always say that if you want to meet new friends and find an incredible community, just join a running group. It never ceases to amaze me how runners who are at first strangers instantly become like friends thanks to the connection and bond of running. We can often do more together than we think we can do on our own … running friends seem to give us a magic little boost that logging miles alone just doesn’t provide. I loved my running community in Atlanta and have been yearning for a similar connection here in Tampa. Today was a great start.

Rather than meeting up with one running group, I had the pleasure of joining two groups of runners this morning. First, I met up with an awesome group of runners training for various fall marathons through my friend Discombobulated Running, and then after quickly showering and changing, I met my mom’s running group for their post-run morning breakfast. To say running with others rather than slogging alone in the heat is wonderful … well that is the understatement of the century.

What a great way to summarize your run! I had one potty stop this morning. Sadly. It bummed me out.

What a fun run! I love running with friends or in a group. yesterday I did my 20 miler solo though, and started at 445 🙁 bleh!

rUnladylike

Aye! 20 miles alone and so early. I’m in pain thinking about it. Way to make it happen. Nice job! xo

Angie

What a beautiful sunrise! I prefer running alone as it is hard with my schedule to meet up with others, but I joined a running group whom I meet up with when I can. I have also reached out to some other moms I know in my neighborhood to hook up for a run, it definitely makes the time go by faster! My weekend miles were great. Sunday is always a recovery run which I love, and I did IronStrength yesterday. Most of my runs are during the week.

Nice job Angie and it’s great that you’ve found some people to run with even though you enjoy running solo. I love IronStrength. It’s such a hard workout and so effective. Glad you like it to. Have a great week ahead. xo

Abby @ BackAtSquareZero

Love the recap by the numbers.
2 hours of sleep – yikes.
I ran with two of your girls today – Jess & Christina and I did 14 together.

Nice job Abby! It’s so fun when running and the online world brings us together. Hope you guys had a good run and lots of fun. xo

Tim

Great recap! I can’t imagine running in those kind of conditions terribly well. On Saturday I ran a grueling 22 mile run. My last long run before marathon number 7. Can I say how awesome tapering is!!! Keep up the great work.

rUnladylike

Awesome job Tim!!!! Congrats on making it to taper. Enjoy the next few weeks. You’ve got this!

This sounds so nice. I have never run with a group b/c I like to go my own pace. But I know there are times a running buddy could push me when I want to quit. And running with someone else or a group is good for safety too. Definitely something I’ll look in to!

Beth

SO glad you are local now! And happy I could help. Next time, I’ll be able to run the whole thing with you. LOL
