Sweat. Move. Repeat.

March 9, 2016

There are a million motivational quotes to help us “get moving,” but none I can find to literally inspire me to “move.” As in, move into a new house while juggling work, life, running and 397 other things. Moving has been my main form of exercise the past week. Lift box. Carry upstairs. Unpack. Repeat. Can you believe I walked more than 20,000 steps on the first two days of moving by simply walking around the house and going up and down stairs? Rather than making me more exhausted during this process, running and working out actually gives me more energy. Between arranging furniture, hanging window treatments and accessorizing rooms, I’ve managed to squeeze in a few runs and a handful of new ClassPass classes during the past week.

Here’s a quick look at what has been happening over at rUnladylike headquarters lately.

Sweat

  • Wednesday, 3/2: AM: Ran 5 miles before we closed on our new house; PM: Moving
  • Thursday, 3/3: Moved all day
  • Friday, 3/4: Moved all day
Sweat. Move. Repeat.
Check out this Brooks Running foam lobster finger I found while unpacking one of my kitchen boxes. They sent it to me last year before the 2015 Boston Marathon, and somehow it made it into my kitchen box. Just in time for this year’s race!
  • Saturday, 3/5: Ran 4 miles with Mr. rUnladylike before moving all. day. long.
Sweat. Move. Repeat.
Here’s a shot of me running on one of my go-to routes near my new house
  • Sunday, 3/6: AM: 1-hour spin class at SoHo Cycling via ClassPass + moving all. day. long. (notice the pattern here?)
Sweat. Move. Repeat.
This wall of inspiration was in the room where we were spinning. How appropriate during my stressful week: “There is no choice but to let go.”
  • Monday, 3/7: 1-hour of strength training and cardio intervals at Barre Fitness via ClassPass. This was one of the best barre classes I’ve been to, and I loved that we alternated strength work with bursts of cardio to get our heart rates up.
  • Tuesday, 3/8: 75 minutes of restorative yoga at Bella Prana Yoga via ClassPass; This is one of my favorite yoga studios in Tampa and gentle yoga was exactly what I needed to give my tired body some TLC. I followed that up with 4 hours of hanging art and pictures on the wall.
  • Wednesday, 3/9: 1 hour of strength and interval training at South Tampa Fit via ClassPass; This was an insanely good workout at a new-to-me studio. At the end of the class, my heart rate felt as high as it would at the end of a 5K after intensity intervals alternating between a spin bike and slam balls. This is a class that challenged me and made me feel strong. And guess what I did all night? Yep, moving and hanging things.

On Thursday I’m running 5 to 7 miles with new friends, Friday is spinning, Saturday is a 6 to 8-mile run and Sunday will include a short recovery run with strength work. Back at it like normal next week with more running and lots of strength training.

Move

As for the house, it is really coming together. Other than one mishap of getting a 150-pound mirror dropped on my middle finger, it has been pretty smooth sailing. (My finger tip looks like a purple grape. Luckily, it is not my writing hand and it was not a foot. #SilverLining)

Here are a few pictures of the inside before we started moving things in (kitchen, butler’s pantry, living room, dining room, dinette area, master bath). Now that we’ve brought in all our furniture and are working on all the design elements, it is really looking good.

I’m excited to start working on our home gym soon. Stay tuned for more photos, tips and tricks for that process.

Home Sweet Home

How has your week been so far? What is keeping you the busiest outside of running and working out?

Allie

Is the key word here move? LOL!!! OMG so many steps and yikes to your purple finger but I love how you put it into perspective. I love that shot of you running by the water – amazing. And the house looks absolutely gorgeous. Hope you stop “moving” so much this week and start to “settle” a little bit!

Christine @ Two Runners Travel

I can only imagine that you have been busy! I’m impressed that you have still been working out since moving is quite a workout in itself! I love those tray ceilings. Looks beautiful and a lovely place to call home!

Mike Podracky

Looks like you need to call Architectural Digest for some coverage. Very nice.

rUnladylike

Awe, you are WAY too kind Mike! Thank you!

Christina

I’m dying over that bathtub.

rUnladylike

🙂 Needed the right space for all that Epsom salt soaking. LOL

Kristin

You did a gorgeous job with the house! And fitting in workouts on top of moving too- you’re my new hero!

rUnladylike

LOL Kristin. Most days it feels like survival mode. But we all just keep doing what we can, when we can and it all seems to work out. Thanks for your very kind words. xoxoxo

Ana

What a beautiful home! Congratulations on the new house!

Back in October when I moved, I had the most steps in one day that didn’t include any running.

Laura @ This Runner's Recipes

What a beautiful home! I love the hardwood floors and white walls/trim and omg your kitchen is everything. Yikes on your finger – but at least it wasn’t a foot! Moving is so much more tiring than running. I hope you get to enjoy more beautiful runs this week – love that photo of you by the water!

rUnladylike

Thanks Laura! I ran about 6 miles with a friend this morning and it literally felt like death. You don’t realize the effects of all the climbing, lifting, bending and lack of sleep from moving until you try to run. Eek. It was a total struggle fest. Hoping I can redeem myself on Saturday 🙂 xo

Laura

New home looks amazing! I know that moving is incredibly stressful and tiring, I’m glad things are starting to come together though! Hope your finger is alright from the battle with the mirror!

Kimberly @ Healthy Strides

Awesome job! Seriously. Fitting in anything workout wise while moving is an accomplishment but I’m sure it felt good to have that time to yourself. Hopefully your finger feels better soon!

And the house … gorgeous. Absolutely, 110 percent gorgeous.

I love seeing your ClassPass studios. Reading the post made me excited to try some places out when I head down there this summer!

rUnladylike

When will you be in Tampa and please tell me we will be getting together!

Angie

I love your house, it should be on the cover of a magazine. It is great that you still got all of your workouts in, it definitely keeps the stress down! My week has been great. I have done Orange Theory three times in the last two weeks. That place kicks my ### like no other. I am completely exhausted when I come home. Any tips how to incorporate it into a running program? I don’t want to add another run, but I need to run just 4 days a week so if I do OT, it has to count as a run day so I can add mileage on other days or just do an easy 3-4 miles before the class. I tried to run after it today and that was a lost cause. Thanks Jesica!

rUnladylike

Hi Angie! Great job on OTF! It is a killer workout. For people whose #1 goal is running and who are currently training for a half or full marathon, I would recommend limiting OTF to no more than 2 days a week. Since it has to be used as a run day, I would recommend substituting your speed workout for this. Speed days would be hard days, and you’ll get sprinting and strength training in via OTF which constitute a hard day. Your day before and after OTF should be easy run days. For your push pace I would run tempo pace and for all out pace I would run 200-400 meter pace. Hope that helps! xo

Christine @ Love, Life, Surf

Oh man. I’m glad that your finger is ok. And I have to say, the thought of moving sends shivers down my spine but if I were moving into YOUR gorgeous house??! So excited for you to be in your home settling in. xox

rUnladylike

Thanks Christine! I need to have you all down for a winter running retreat! 😉 xoxo
