My Runner’s World Rave Run: The Bahamas

March 7, 2013

It happens every month. Every single one. I open my latest copy of Runner’s World. I get through the table of contents and first few pages of ads, and there it is: the Runner’s World Rave Run. A gorgeous photograph of some lucky person on a run that is probably on all of our running bucket lists. I have to stop myself from drooling over the most spectacular settings and backgrounds known to man. I have a mental temper tantrum just looking at my treadmill after that … like how dare I have to run on this lame belt after seeing runners in snow covered forests, on picturesque mountains and along jaw-dropping trails.

Well, I finally found myself in one of these dream runs. And since it has been so cold, windy, rainy and snowy just about everywhere, it’s time for some Run Happy mojo … and a promise that the weather will be less dreary for all of us soon.

Last month, Mr. rUnladylike and I planned a spontaneous long weekend trip to the Bahamas. We stayed at a small, secluded resort in Nassau.

While we were there, we got in 2 killer workouts that will be etched into my brain for some time.

The first was my version of a Runner’s World rave run. We ran 5 miles along the coast of the Caribbean Sea. We went from the road, to the beach, to a grassy pathway and finally over rocky terrain along the water. And all the while, we enjoyed the beauty of each mile. This is what my rave run looked like …

Our second workout was a strength workout on the beach. We did this in the sand just steps away from the water:

And it looked like this:

This sure beats the 7-mile tempo run on the treadmill I’m going to be running today!

Beautiful photos 🙂 I got to live beach front once (granted it was in the winter in Maryland) but none the less, running on the beach with my dog, even if it was cold and rainy, was the BEST ever!!! And since it was winter, we had the whole beach to ourselves!

I loved running in Antigua when we were there for our Weddingmoon! I have a few photos, but spent most of my time with my new hubby 😉 I can’t wait to go back – I could have ran into a tree because I was looking around so much at the pretty surroundings! My other favorite was the West side highway when we stayed in NYC in Soho!

I LOVED LOVED LOVED running in Nassau when we were there back in October! We stayed at Atlantis and they have some awesome trails around the resort. Who doesn’t love running around the ocean?!? I lived in the (very) landlocked state of Kansas, so the cloest thing I get to the ocean is running along the river by my house! 😉

So jealous, this would be my idea of the ultimate run!
You’re right, I’m going to struggle hopping on a treadmill ever again. 😛

Beautiful!!! I love running when I’m on the cruise ship. It’s not exactly the most breathtaking of views, but in a sense having NOTHING other than the sea and the sky around you is so calming.

And I have to golf clap applaud you on that start jump. PERFECT SYMMETRY!

Love the beautiful photos !!!!
I always love to see that page in RW. I live in Florida. I often think what great beauty we have here to run in and think that it could be the Rave Run page in RW. My husband and I ran along Anna Maria Island in December that was near perfect.
