Rave Runs of 2017

December 15, 2017

At the end of each year, I relive the past 365 days through the memories of where I’ve run. 2017 has been a year of rebirth and renewal. It has been a year of slowly finding my stride and returning to running after child birth. Although the process has been gradual and conservative, running has still remained a constant in this transformational year. Here’s a trip back through my destination runs in 2017.

Albuquerque, New Mexico (March)

I spent a weekend in Albuquerque at Brooks Altitude Camp in March. Running on the gorgeous trails surrounded by inspiring runners was a great way to start to find my stride at nine weeks postpartum.

Orlando, Florida (March)

We spent the last week of my maternity leave at one of our favorite places: Disney. I woke up before the sun rose several mornings to run along the Boardwalk before full days in the parks.

Louisville, Kentucky (May)

We attended a family wedding in Louisville, which doubled as Baby rUnladylike’s first plane trip. We asked my in-laws to babysit for an hour while Mr. rUnladylike and I ran around the waterfront and along some local trails. I was too busy soaking in my surroundings to take pictures but was able to snap one that afternoon along the path.

Atlanta, Georgia (July)

We returned to our old stomping grounds where we lived for 10 years to celebrate the Fourth of July. Mr. rUnladylike and I took our daughter on a sentimental running tour of all the houses where we lived and all the paths where we used to run during a 6-mile stroller run.

Boca Grande, Florida (July)

Spending several days in Boca Grande has become a summer family tradition. We rent a house on the beach and relax with family and friends. I ran a 7-mile run along a paved path here, which at the time was the furthest I’d run to date since having my baby.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming (August)

Cue the pages of Runner’s World. We traveled to Wyoming and Montana in August to spend 10 days touring three of America’s most amazing National Parks on our quest to visit them all. I ran along this path in Jackson Hole twice while we were there. Do people seriously get to live and run here every day?!?

Glacier National Park, Montana (August)

If Jackson Hole didn’t delight me enough, I had the chance to run in Glacier National Park in Montana. The temps were perfect and we didn’t see any bears that are prevalent here so it was a successful family stroller run.

Chicago, Illinois (September)

Ah Chicago. My one true running love. I have so much history when it comes to running in this city. I made two trips to Chicago in September for work and took advantage of the early mornings to run along the lakefront and soak in the memories this city holds for me.

Orlando, Florida (October)

In October, we returned to Disney for several days, which meant a family run around Disney property and the Boardwalk. Mr. rUnladylike and I took turns pushing the stroller before a full day at the parks.

Portsmouth, New Hampshire (November)

In November, I traveled to New Hampshire to run the Seacoast Half Marathon and meet up with some of my absolute favorite runners and friends. It was a special weekend that brought some beautiful running.

North Carolina (December)

This month, I’ll run in one more new destination as we take a family trip to the North Carolina mountains.

I’m excited for new adventures in 2018 and exploring life and the world one run at a time.

Where were your favorite places you ran in 2017? Where are you most looking forward to running in 2018?
