A Confession and Revelation from the Treadmill

June 22, 2016

Running is something I love. It’s an outlet to break away from stress. It’s a time to feel free and unbridled. It’s a way to see the world … or my neighborhood (over and over and over). It’s time spent with good friends. It’s so many things that make me happy and provide a sense of empowerment I get nowhere else.

But lately, I’ve found myself struggling with running motivation.

I’ve been going to spin classes, doing strength training workouts with Mr. rUnladylike and attending barre classes. But on the days I plan to run, I’ve been “too busy.” Now, I have no more excuses. If you’re struggling with a little summer motivation, join me for my vlog confession {and revelation} straight from the treadmill …

What are your favorite home workouts? When you exercise at home, where do you do it? Do you have a dedicated space or do you just set up shop in the living room?

20 minutes!!! Yep, that’s all it takes. I’m dying to know what brand of treadmill you went with and how you like it. Good work girl and just take it one day at a time. You’ll get your mojo back!

Thanks friend. I got the True ES900 with highest monitor option. It is a high-end treadmill and we absolutely love it. I wasn’t initially planning to get one this nice, but there was an opportunity to buy a floor model and I just decided I couldn’t pass it up. I’m going to do a full post on it and our gym as soon as I finish it. Still working on a few items to finish it out, but it has been a game-changer to have a dedicated space. Which reminds me … I need to go cancel my LA Fitness membership I haven’t used in months. LOL

Great post! And you look too good while running! My body is beet red and sweaty!
I always tell myself- just do a 5K. That’s 22 minutes inside or 25-27 outside (I refuse to run at a fast pace in the heat and surrounded by hills!) and I often find myself doing 5-6 miles.
I have a home gym in my basement and use my treadmill (or run outside) 4 days a week and do strength and stretching (with free weights) 2 times a week. I either make up my own routine or use a video (Jillian Michaels, P90X or 21 Day Fix).

Leanne, you are killing it! Your regimen is awesome and I love your self-talk to just get out there for 20-30 mins which easily can turn into more. Also, for the record … I look hideous while running. I took this video before I started my full workout on a SUPER SLOW pace before turning up the speed. LOL! I was afraid the belt would be too noisy if I tried to run faster and I wouldn’t be able to talk. Ha!

I always tell my athletes (and, more often, myself) that something is better than nothing. 20 minutes really is all it takes! Great work on getting back into the swing – and yay for a new treadmill! A home treadmill was a life saver (or at least, running saver) when I lived in hot and humid Ohio…and when I lived in forever-winter Indiana. I think you’ll find your motivation is back in no time – go get it!

I definitely have days that I have to tell myself that I won’t regret it once I’m 10 min in. Now if someone can explain to my body how it feels so much easier/more motivating to get up and drive to OrangeTheory as opposed to get up and get on the treadmill or walk outside where I can actually sleep in a little later. Crazy mind games!

So true! I am very unmotivated in the summer but once I get going, I usually stay at it longer. I don’t go to a “gym” anymore. I do everything outside (bike and run) although I joined a small local swim club to get my laps in there ($25 per month). I do ST at home in front of my TV in the living room. I wish I had a dedicated space. I would love to transform our once used play area downstairs into a home gym. I can’t wait to read your post on how you did yours to give me ideas.

Getting back into it can be so hard!! And I am a big fan of 20 minutes and done. Sooo exciting that you have a treadmill at home now! It will make such a difference.
