September Running at a Glance

September 6, 2016

Although my mileage has slowed down since becoming pregnant, that has not dimmed my focus on running. September is all about running here at runladylike.com, and I’ve got some exciting things planned I can’t wait to share with you this month. I’ll be posting live updates from my running adventures on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook all month, so be sure to find me there. Here’s a sneak peek of what’s in store:

1.  Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Wellness Weekend (September 9-11)

One of my favorite things about running is that it often takes me on adventures to explore beautiful destinations and make lasting memories I otherwise may never have experienced. This weekend, I’m hitting the road for a wellness weekend on the beaches of the Alabama gulf coast thanks to my friends at Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Tourism. I’ve never spent any time on the Alabama gulf coast or beaches, so I’m really excited to see what it has to offer. I’ve heard it is a great getaway destination for girlfriends, families and running/triathlon events. I really appreciate a place that values wellness, fitness and exercise and makes it part of the daily routine. Here are the three things I’m excited about for the weekend:

  • I’m going to spend the weekend with my two very best running friends Beth and Elizabeth doing active, fun things. I seriously may explode with delight having these two together with me all weekend!
  • I’ll be spectating at the Brett/Robinson Alabama Coastal Triathlon, which I’m certain is going to give me the triathlon itch again (As in, I’m going to do an Ironman sooner rather than later. I just said that out loud).
  • Beach yoga, kayaking and eating my way around the coast are all part of my itinerary.

SAVE THE DATE for a Twitter Chat: While I’m in Alabama, I’ll be hosting a Twitter chat with my above-mentioned fantastic running friends. Join us on Saturday, September 10 at 1:30 Central time (2:30 Eastern time) to talk about staying fit while traveling and ya whole lot more. The chat will be hosted by/on @AlabamaBeaches using the hashtag #VisitALbeaches. Get all the details here.

2. Fit Foodie Race Weekend (September 16-18)

Next weekend, I’ll be participating in my first race pregnant at the Fit Foodie 5K in Tampa. It’s sponsored by John Hancock, Cooking Light and Health, and it is going to be such a fun weekend because both my parents are joining me for the race. I’ll be running with my mom, and my dad will be running as well. I’ll be interviewing some special elite runners you’re going to be really excited about, and I’m looking forward to seeing how I feel during the race. Knowing delicious food will be waiting for me to taste at the finish line may make me run faster. Although I paid for my own race registration, my friends at Fit Foodie have given me access into all the weekend festivities that I can’t wait to share with you in two weeks.

3. Rise.Run.Retreat. (September 29-October 2)

Capping off an incredible September is the second annual Rise.Run.Retreat., an intimate women’s running retreat I co-host with Sarah Canney of Run Far Girl. This year’s event is in the picturesque mountains of Waterbury, Vermont.

Rise.Run.Retreat.

I am beyond excited for this weekend, which brings female runners together for a weekend of friendship, laughter and of course, running. The weekend ends with the Leaf Peepers Half Marathon, which I’ll be watching from the sidelines and cheering everyone on as a spectator. Sarah and I have some amazing things planned this year, including a nutrition for runners seminar, a strength training session, a shake-out run with an elite runner, a panel discussion on running and influence, morning yoga and much more. You can learn more about our retreat here, and you can see my recap from last year’s retreat here.

Whew! That’s a packed September. I’m looking forward to every minute.

What’s on tap for your September? Do you have any special races or running events coming up?

Holy cow woman! You have so many amazing things planned and, of course, I will be seeing you in VT.
I never thought about the “Alabama coast!” I can’t wait to check out the triathlon page…

Looks like an awesome September! I considered trying to join you for the retreat, but decided to focus on my marathon training instead. Maybe next year! I can’t wait to read all your recaps from these fun weekends!

Beth

I am 100% sucked right back into triathlon. I told Nick last night “Let’s do IMFL!” Dear lord, who am I? Can’t wait for this weekend!

rUnladylike

LOL! I will allow you to do IMFL as long as that does not prevent you from participating in my “one-and-done” IM Maryland with me during the next five years. xoxo
