Running & Training Update: 25 Weeks Pregnant

At more than six months pregnant, there are two questions I get asked by almost everyone I come into contact with: 1) How are you feeling? and 2) How is your running going? Every few weeks, I’ve been sharing a video message with the latest updates on my running, fitness, nutrition, weight-gain and other revelations while going through my first pregnancy. Here’s what’s in today’s video message:

  • The revelation I’ve had about my body and weight during the past few weeks
  • The results from my gestational diabetes test last week
  • How my running is going at 25 weeks pregnant (see my training recap from the past two weeks below the video)
  • What we started doing differently from an eating perspective at our house during the past week (it’s kind of crazy and awesome)

I SO wish we had a meal service like that around here! I would sign up in a second!! I also know exactly what you mean when you look back at those photos and say ‘why didn’t I appreciate this more?’ But, you look great and sound fantastic! I cannot wait to see you and HUG you!!!

That meal service sounds awesome! I am so happy for you – you look great and it sounds like you are in such a wonderful time in your pregnancy! I can’t wait to meet you in a couple days!

Hi Jesica! So glad to hear that you’ve been feeling energetic and motivated the last few weeks! I really appreciated hearing your body image thoughts and revelations this week — in the past 2-3 weeks I feel like my belly has doubled in size and I suddenly feel SUPER pregnant, which is nice cause I no longer feel “just chubby,” but makes me a little nervous since I know I still have so far to go. I didn’t make the connection between the added effort of exercise lately and the weight gain until I heard you say it — duh, makes total sense. And I too have been looking at pre-pregnancy and early pregnancy photos of myself (“I look so thin!”) and wondering if my body will ever look the same… I’m also struggling with the innate tendency to compare myself to other pregnant women, whether that be in real life or online/social media, and am trying to balance the line between gaining reassurance/motivation from them and feeling bad about myself in comparison. I’m trying to focus on what my body can do day by day, the fact that my doctor says I’m doing great, and the little kicks and punches from inside my belly that are getting stronger by the day :-). Hope you and baby are having a great week so far — your upcoming retreat sounds fantastic!

Thanks for sharing how you are currently doing Becca. I think it is natural to look at others, especially during our first pregnancies. There are people I see who are five weeks ahead of me who look about the same size and it makes me wonder if I am too big, but we all grow at different rates and embracing our own journeys is what is important as you pointed out. I’ll be thinking about you and hoping you continue to feel good and strong! xoxo

Sounds like everything is going great. I am so happy for you. All of this exercise will really help you recover once you have had the baby. Quick question, what are the best strength training videos you like to use it home? Now that my triathlon season is done, I would really like to start some heavy strength training at home as I no longer belong to a gym. Do you like P90X or something else? I really do not need anything with extra cardio, just hard sttength training. Thank you for your tips and I really enjoy following your posts!

Hi Angie! It’s great to hear from you. I like a lot of the P90X3 arm workouts and Hammer and Chisel has great workouts. The 21 Day Fix workouts are also pretty good, as well as basic Jillian Michaels DVDs. I also go to barre classes a lot as well. Keep me posted on what you decide and what you like. xo

Wishing U Well

You are a true inspiration to all women out there especially to pregnant one. I’ve never been pregnant but I know for a fact how important it is for pregnant women. This will help them deliver their baby the easy way and no complication. And it’s for health matters also.
