April Favorites: 4 Fit Finds for Spring

April 30, 2014

How we train, what we eat and when we rest and recover all have a huge impact on our performance. But so does the gear we use every day to be successful. At the end of each month, I share my favorite finds for running, triathlon and general fitness. Here are my favorite finds from April.

1. CamelBak Aurora

I spent a lot of time hiking in the mountains of Utah and Colorado during the past month (more on that soon!), and this was the absolute perfect hiking mate. Mr. rUnladylike bought it for me before our trip, and I love it. Not only is it designed for a woman’s body, but it is extremely lightweight even though it holds 70 ounces of fluids. It has two zippered pockets and another mesh opening that was perfect for holding things like an ID and money, keys, snacks and other items. It kept me hydrated throughout our hikes without having to stop and get out a water bottle. I don’t know how I have survived this long without a CamelBak backpack. Although this one isn’t made for running, they have a number of options for running and cycling. The Aurora is actually made for cycling and the pockets can hold spare tubes, C02 cartridges and maintenance tools. They are a bit pricey. This one goes for $70, but it is well worth the investment if you’re going to be spending a lot of time outdoors.

2. Danskin Now Womens 360 High-Impact Seamless Racerback Sports Bra and Seamless Keyhole Sports Bra

I discovered these bras at Walmart this month and bought a few since I will be working from home starting today. Although I want to be comfortable while working from my home office, I don’t want to be in my PJs all day. To say I love these bras would be an understatement. I liked them so much, I went out and bought 4 more, and I now own 6 in white, black and grey (4 of the plunge/keyhole bras and 2 of the racerbacks). They are great under any outfit and work awesome with a low neck tank to look like you are wearing 2 tanks. During my trip last week, I also wore the racerbacks while hiking. I have been wearing them under dress clothes as well and they are my new favorite thing! They have removeable pads that wash really well. And the best part? They are only $9.95 each!

3. Picky Bars

I’ve been hearing about these bars from other runners forever, but I finally got to try them this month (and then another, and another, and another). When I ran Ragnar Trail Atlanta at the beginning of the month, our team captain received several bags for us to try and share with others. And they were delicious and satisfying. If you haven’t heard the story behind these bars, they were created by elite runner Lauren Fleshman when she set out to make a gluten and dairy free energy bar for her husband (and triathlete) Jesse. With that in mind, Lauren and her best friend created bars with a 4 to 1 carbohydrate to protein ratio, slow releasing carbs for level blood sugar, minimal soy content and healthy fats making up 25 percent of the calories. The brand is fun and clever and the bars are yummy to eat. I’ve tried all the flavors and really like them.

4. Brooks RunHappy Compress Calf Sleeves

As a Brooks Running Run Happy Ambassador, the Brooks team sends me different products to try each month. This month, the good folks at Brooks sent me a pair of their compression calf sleeves to try. I was really excited to try these because compression material in my socks cause my feet to cramp, however with very tight calves, having some compression on my calves is a plus. I tried these out on a 5-mile run last week and really liked them. Plus they are super cute and give the people running behind me something to smile about. I also like that they are made with a mesh material to keep legs breathing easy since I tend to get very hot when I run.

I am heading to Walmart right this minute to go buy that bra. I am always on the hunt for a good sports bra and for $10 I will buy a lifetime supply 🙂

rUnladylike

I wouldn’t wear these running because I’m not sure they have enough support, but I LOVE them for everyday wear 🙂 Let me know what you think if you try them! xo

Jojo @ RunFastEatLots

Love it when I find bras for cheap! I recently tried a new protein bar, ProBar, and I really liked them. They are vegan, made with whole ingredients, 20g protein and around 300 cals. Perfect for after a hard workout, or to fuel a long ride.

Kat

Love that Brooks has compression sleeves now!

Beth

I’m gonna need to check out those bras! Awesome find lady!

Lacy @ Running Limitless

I love those calf sleeves. Do they have them in socks? I also really love the price of the sports bras. Are they pretty supportive?
Wow, I just turned this into a question and answer session. 🙂

rUnladylike

LOL Lacy! Brooks doesn’t appear to have the run happy sleeves in full socks, but they do sell great compression socks that I would recommend (black, pink, hot yellow). I have a black pair. As for the bras, they are more for everyday wear vs. for running. They provide great support for everyday wear, but they aren’t something I would run in. I have been looking for something more comfortable to wear under clothes instead of an uncomfortable traditional bra and these are my absolute new fav. The plunge bra is great for everyday clothes, tanks, etc. Hope this helps 🙂

nancy

looove the compression socks!!! 😀

Emily

I was actually looking to get those calf sleeves from Brooks. I saw they had then in a greenish yellow and was wondering how comfortable they are?

rUnladylike

Hi Emily! They also come in pink and yellow and are very comfortable. I have big calves for my size and the small fit well.

Angie

Hi! I tried using the discount code for the Picky Bars and it did not work….thanks.

rUnladylike

Oh no! They gave that to us at the beginning of the month. I’ll check into it and let you know what I find out.

rUnladylike

Hi Angie, Just wanted to follow up that the discount code is no longer active but I wasn’t informed of that. I have removed it from the post. So sorry for the inconvenience. I’ll keep you posted if/when I receive more.

Leslie @ Triathlete Treats

I love Picky Bars! I got a pair of CW-X tights but have not tried them out yet! 🙂
